Welcome.
The following provides examples of my work, with a focus on my river rocks paintings, some ink drawings and some colorful still lifes.
The rock paintings explore a tension between abstraction and realism.
The coffee drawings I do while having coffee each morning. They are all in pen and ink with no pre-drawing. The drawing just unfolds, as well as the mistakes. It's all part of the process.
The last page are some examples of my paintings I call "un-still lifes".
Enjoy.
There is a link to my email if you have any questions or would like to be put on my mailing list.

My work employs the use of multiple mediums (encaustic wax, charcoal, color pencil and traditional oil paint) into a landscape of real and suggested textures. Finding the balance between these mediums is paramount. Drawing has always had an important significance as well, and in many paintings I try to retain the drawing's character (voice) in the process.
Some of the large scale paintings use multiple canvases that create an architectural division of space - a grid. These divisions, like the different mediums, are integrated but never lost within the work. These divisions seem to suggest aspects of deconstructionism, in contrast to the constructed image as a whole. The goal is to acknowledge the natural divisions of the canvas and to transcend and develop a unified visual flow.
I like painting rocks because I believe rocks are shaped by natural forces that contain energy. This energy becomes embedded in them until these truths can be released and set free .
People too hold this energy like rocks, waiting .....
It's this interaction of forces that become spiritual metaphors both in subject matter and materials, which connect my life to my art. My rock paintings are an attempt to explore this process.
